Sousei no Aquarion

To clear things up, we wanted to make a brief note on the site.

We all know how good the Japanese are at getting non-Japanese names correct, while looking at the character profile we noticed they chose the Japanese reading for the Kanji in the episode versus the Mandarin (chinese) version they have listed on the site.

HONG Lihua - this is what they have for the character name. (mandarin reading)

KURENAI Reika - this is what they _use_ in the episode -- so far only the first name: Reika. (Japanese reading)

However, the Kanji: 紅儷花

Read as:

Rather than go with the reading they listed, we chose to go with the Japanese reading simply because seeing Lihua show up, when they're clearly using the Japanese reading for 儷花 (Reika) would be annoying.

We don't see this as wrong. Yes... they have the Mandarin (chinese) reading HONG Lihua on their site, however they chose the Japanese reading in episode 1 (Reika), as we are fansubbing the show, and they chose the Japanese reading, we chose the same...

Apologies for all the confusion this may have caused, on further thought we really should have made this clear in episode 1.

So, we tried real, REAL hard to figure out the Karaoke for the end song, and came to the conclusion that it is another one of Gabriela Robin's made-up-language songs. For those who don't know, Gabriela Robin is rumored to be none other than Yoko Kanno.
As an interesting note, here is an exact list of the languages we had checked, mostly from group members! however there were quite a few academics that we prodded to check some of the more exotic languages:

Rather than leave it untranslated, and without Karaoke, we decided to have a little fun with it, Alizar came up with a great romanisation of the final words, his little note on the methods used:

A SnA watcher wrote in with a correction for this note. Apparently, despite the fact this is supposed to be a thousand year old text, Sousei no Aquarion chose to use *MODERN* Greek rather than *ANCIENT* (which is what I know). So, my note is as hilariously wrong as I thought the Greek was. Here are his corrections (some of the text translates exactly the same):

The Greek displayed on the 'Lithica' book (that has very little to do with the actual Lithica) in SnA07 contains an interesting mix of Greek grammar and bloopers.

While they weren't strictly worth typesetting, we thought that they might be interesting to the more detail-oriented fans. Some of the Greek is written erroneously or may use terms incorrectly. Some of it's amusing. Some appears to be gibberish (though I'm open to suggestions). I've tried to note corrections where I can figure out what went wrong.

I've written transliterations into Latin type-face.

Here courtesy of Julikko, our resident Spanish expert, is the transcription and translation of Sirius' elephant poem from the on-screen Spanish, translated and transcribed literally with errors and all.

Since we're guessing the larger Aquarion audience in Japan can't read horribly written Spanish we opted to make this a website note rather than typesetting it within the episode.

This poem is actually a reference to the great elephant Mahapadma.

In India, the elephant is revered for their gracefulness, it is said in some regions that the world rests on the head of the great elephant Mahapadma, when he shifts his position to get more comfortable earthquakes are generated. For this reason the elephant is also seen as a representation of the earth and its earthquakes/movement.
